Nutty News About Almonds

Surprising new research shows that almonds provide about 20 perent fewer calories than previously thought.

How is this possible? It turns out that the fat in whole almonds is not absorbed as easily as the fat in most other foods.

Researchers determined that a one-ounce serving of whole almonds has 129 calories, not 160 calories as listed on the Nutrition Facts panel.

The results don't apply to other forms of almonds such as almond butter or sliced almonds, perhaps because finer particles may lead to more complete digestion.

The research team also found that pistachios provide 5 percent fewer calories than previously believed.
